[Significance of this article]
This study presents a method to achieve the red-shift of the absorption spectra using the optical near-field (ONF) effect. This can help reduce the photon energies required for completing chemical reactions in a wide range of applications such as CO2 reduction, water splitting, etc. In our work, we demonstrate that by using the ONF effect, the absorption spectra of the Re metal complex used in CO2 reduction can be red-shifted, enabling the utilization of lower photon energies.
